AN ARMED MOB HANGED NEGRO

Taken From County Jail and Strung Up to Telephone Pole in Public Square.

Litchfield, Ky., Sept. 26. – An armed mob comprised of men and women, early this morning visited the county jail at this place, overpowered the jailer and took Joseph Richardson, a negro, from his cell and hanged him to a telephone pole in the public square of the town. The body then was riddled with bullets and left as a warning to other blacks of the vicinity.

Richardson was charged with assaulting Ree Goff, the 11-year-old daughter of a prominent merchant, while she was on her way to school last Tuesday morning.
