In Morgan County fo Writing an Insulting Letter to a White WomanBawling [sic] Green, Feb. 4.—Last night, near Rockfield, ten miles from this city, a negro named Robert Morton yesterday wrote an insulting note to Miss Tillie Johnson, a very popular young white woman of that town. When it became known, a posse went out to arrest Morton. He ran, but the posse gave chase and captured him after shooting him several times. While the officers were guarding Morton, a mob overpowered them and took the prisoner three miles away and hanged him. The body was found this morning. The matter was kept so quiet that it was not known here until noon today.
