Clarksville, Tenn., Sept. 29. – News has reached here of one of the foulest attempts at rape ever committed in Southern Kentucky. An adopted daughter of Mr. Davis, at Lafayette, Christian county, was riding on horseback along the public road. She was passing some woods, reading a book as she rode, when a negro names Willis Griffey sprang out of the woods, dragged the girl from her horse and carried her into the woods. She struggled bravely and the negro did not succeed in accomplishing his purpose.

The man made his escape, and is still at large. The entire country is aroused. Griffet will be lynched if caught. He is described as being 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weight 165 pounds, has thick lips and a moustache. He is not very dark.
