Wilson, Maysville Evening Bulletin, August 16, 1897

A sensation was caused near Deering camp ground Saturday morning by the finding of George Wilson, colored, hanging from a small tree.

He was suspended by a handkerchief and the hitch rein from his buggy. The negro bore a good reputation, and had on his person when last seen about $60, but when cut down had only $1.40 in his pockets. The general opinion seems to be that Wilson was foully dealt with, although no marks were visible on his person to show that he had been shot or bruised. The colored people of the community are very much incensed over the affair, as WIlson was a prominent Oddfellow, and they will at once employ a detective to clear the matter up.
