NASHVILLE, TENN, July 25. –Jobe Grainger, colored, was lynched last night near Mitchellsville, Sumner County. Yesterday Grainger, a farm hand, had a row with a white man named Witt, for whom he was thrashing wheat over the Kentucky line. In the course of the row Grainger drew a knife and ran Witt from the field. About daylight this morning Grainger was found hanging from a tree.
Nothing is known as to the identity of the lynchers, and the immediate neighbors state that they heard no commotion during the night. The limb from which he was hanged is the same that was used in lynching Hicks and Taylor several years ago for barn-burning.
