Lynched in Daytime
Tom Brown, Identified as a Ravisher, Hanged at Jail Door
Nicholasville, Ky., Feb. 6– Tom Brown, colored, was taken from the officers at the jail door this afternoon at one o’clock and lynched in the court house yard in the presence of several hundred people.
Yesterday Miss Della Powell, residing two miles from the city, was ravished, and Brown was arrested for the crime.
He was taken to the young lady’s home at noon today, and she positively identified him as her ravisher.
Seeing the intention of the mob of two hundred people who had followed the officers and prisoner, she begged them not to lynch him near her home, and in deference to her wishes, they followed the negro back to the city and then lynched him.
The lynching was quiet, and has created quite a great deal of excitement.
